How it is calculated
Money at risk = balance × risk %. Pip value per lot = contract size × pip size (for JPY / CAD / CHF pairs it is divided by the price). Lot size = money at risk ÷ (stop-loss pips × pip value), rounded down to 0.01. Margin = lots × contract size × price ÷ leverage (for USD-base pairs the price is not used).
Questions
Are the values exact for my broker?
They use standard contract sizes (Forex 100,000; Gold 100 oz). Brokers can differ — check your platform's contract specification.
Why is the lot size rounded down?
So that your real risk is never more than what you planned.
